PURPOSE:To obtain a carbonic acid ester useful as an intermediate for producing polymers, agricultural chemical and drugs and a solvent readily, by reacting an alcohol with CO and O2 by the use of a specific solvent in the presence of a catalyst such as copper compound, etc., and a reaction promoter. CONSTITUTION:A 1-20C alcohol, preferably methanol is reacted with CO and O2 in the presence of both a copper compound or the copper compound and a platinum compound catalyst such as Pd compound, etc., and a reaction promoter such as trialkylamine, etc., by the use of a nitrile compound such as benzonitrile or an amide compound such as dimethylformamide, etc., at a solvent at 20-250 deg.C normal pressure or under pressure optionally by diluting CO and O2 with an inert gas at 0.1-30atm. CO partial pressure in the reaction system and 0.05-10atom. O2 partial pressure to give a carbonic acid ester. The use of a specific solvent can raise utilization efficiency of copper component and increase formation rate of the carbonic acid ester. |
