A polycaprolactone staple fiber having a tensile strength of 3.0 g/denier or above, the number of crimps of 8-35/25 mm and a crimp ratio of 5.0 % or above. A biodegradable polycaprolactone staple fiber having excellent crimp characteristics and strength can be provided by melt spinning a polycaprolactone with a melt flow rate of 25 g/10 min or less at 200 to 300 DEG C, cooling the formed fiber, applying thereto a spinning finish, taking up, if desirable, the treated fiber, stretching the same in one or more steps at room temperature to 60 DEG C, mechanically crimping the stretched fiber, applying thereto a short fiber finish, drying the treated fiber, and cutting the dried fiber. |
