Coccidiostatic alkyl 4-hydroxyquinoline-3-carboxylates Title cpds. of formula (I) (where R1 and R2 are 1-12C alkyl or phenylalkyl and R3 is methyl or ethyl) are produced in high yields by reacting an N- (1-4 C alkoxy)-methylene -3-OR1-4-OR2-aniline with di(m)ethyl malonate at 100-300 degrees C and separating off the resulting (I), pref. as it is formed.
