SYSTEM FOR KEEPING DISTANCE BETWEEN MOBILES

PURPOSE:To allow careful driving by measuring the distance between mobiles uniquely on the mobile and controlling the acceleration, advancing direction and relative position of the mobile to satisfy predetermined conditions thereby keeping the distance between mobiles automatically or semiautomatically. CONSTITUTION:A distance measuring equipment 12 recognizes a number plate having prescribed dimensions and the like from image signals of a preceding automobile N picked up by means of a video camera 11. The distance between the preceding automobile N and the automobile N mounting a unit for keeping the distance between automobiles is measured based on the similarity ratio between the prescribed dimensions and the recognized dimensions and information relating the distance thus measured is delivered to a section 13 for deciding the distance between mobiles. The deciding section 13 decides information relating the distance between mobiles based on the distance information and preset conditions for deciding the distance between mobiles and delivers the information thus decided to an alarm section 14. When the distance implies the necessity of alarm, the alarm section 14 delivers an alarm to the driver based on predetermined object distance control conditions.
