PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal display device by which a wide angle of visibility or a specified angle of visibility is obtained without deteriorating display quality and which can be changed to a low power consumption type one by easily making the angle of visibility small as necessary. CONSTITUTION:In this liquid crystal display device constituted so that the display screen of a transmission type liquid crystal panel 51 may be observed from a front surface side by arranging a surface light source on the back surface side of the liquid crystal panel 51; a condensing plate 55 limiting the divergent angle of emitted light from the surface light source is arranged between the surface light source and the liquid crystal panel 51, and an optical compensator 58 controlling the divergent angle of the transmitted light through the liquid crystal panel 51 or specifying the refracting direction is arranged between the liquid crystal panel 51 and an observer. |
