Apparatus forming a power supply, e.g. for an electric motor, comprises a base on which are mounted a plurality of bus-bars and having exposed bus-bar ends located in spaced pairs, a plurality of modules each of which comprises a support on which an electrical unit is mounted and which is adapted to be detachably secured between a given pair of the bus-bar ends, each module comprising terminals which are electrically connected to the respective electrical unit and the terminals being in electrical connection with the bus-bar ends when the module is secured thereto. Individual modules contain certain elements of the electric motor control and supply system, such as the starting and stopping circuitry, various controlled and uncontrolled rectifiers, saturable reactors, parameter sensing elements, parameter reference setting devices and switching elements. The motor may be a D.C. motor having a commutating field, a shunt field and a stabilizing field which are supplied with D.C. from an A.C. source by way of thyristors, the firing points of the thyristors being controlled by the error signal between a reference signal and the rectifier output voltage and saturable reactors. Set value devices for minimum speed, maximum speed, maximum current and IR compensation are provided. The heavy current carrying modules are bolted to the ends of the bus-bars whereas the control circuit modules may be connected thereto by plug and socket connectors. |
