PURPOSE:To obtain a method for determination of and information on properties of a defect which is effective for early execution of a measure for removing a cause of the defect of a multicolor print being detected and which does not necessarily need an expert for execution thereof and, moreover, is useful for improvement of a yield. CONSTITUTION:The image of a multicolor print being moved is picked up in the direction of the width thereof by inspection cameras 3a to 3d and video signals outputted from these cameras are inputted to a defect inspecting device 7 processing these signals and detecting a defect of the multicolor print therefrom and to an image preparing device 8 processing the video signals and preparing image data containing the defect detected by the device 7. The image data prepared by the device 8 and containing the defect are processed by a defect image determining device 31 having a defect color determination table and the address in the direction X of the defect is extracted. After this extraction, the color of the defect of which the address is extracted is determined by comparison with the color determination table and information as to a printing plate printing the color of the defect is given. |
