PURPOSE:To attain sophisticated pattern recognition by extending remarkably a range of a gray level picture to be processed. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with a pre-processing unit 61 eliminating noise from an original picture, adjusting a gradation number and implementing division processing of an area, a data reader 62 reading a processed picture as a pet of contours and generating an area data list in which data characterizing an area surrounded by the contours are stored, a characteristic area extract device 63 selecting an area as a significant object from the picture, and a contour drawing device 64 displaying a contour of a selected area and reading coordinate data reproducing a rough shape, and generates the data list recording of areas surrounded by contours from a picture, selects an area long with a specific object, draws the contour onto a display device and acquires coordinate data thereby extending a range of the introduction of the evaluation of the gray level picture into machinery. |
