PURPOSE:To eliminate a region in which a flaw is not detected in a plate, to be inspected, in a conveyance state and to detect the flaw with good accuracy over the whole width in a flaw detection technique using a tire probe. CONSTITUTION:In a state that a plate 1 to be inspected has been conveyed in a definite direction, a transverse-direction tire probe 27 which houses a vibrator transmitting and receiving first ultrasonic waves 29 in a direction at right angles to a direction of rotation is brought into contact with the surface of the plate 1 to be inspected, and the first ultrasonic waves 29 are made to impinge on the plate, to be inspected, in a width direction at right angles to its conveyance direction. In addition, longitudinal-direction probes 26a, 26b which house vibrators transmitting and receiving second ultrasonic waves 28a, 28b in the direction of rotation are brought into contact with the surface of the plate 1 to be inspected, and the second ultrasonic waves 28a, 28b are made to impinge on the plate 1, to be inspected, in a direction parallel to the conveyance direction. Then, a flaw in the plate 1 to be detected is detected on the basis of echoes included in individual output signals of the individual tire probes 26a, 26b, 27. |
