摘要 PURPOSE:To offer a method of starting time temp. rise operating of a phosphoric acid type fuel cell, with which growing of catalyzer particles of electrode into coarse grains and associated drop in the characteristics and lifetime characteristic can be precluded. CONSTITUTION:In temp. rise operation, the battery temp. is kept at the specified standby level Tfw for temp. rising by a cooling water circulating system 5, and the temps. of a devulcanizer 2B, fuel modifier 2A, and CO denaturing device 2C of the fuel modifying system 2 are raised sot that the time of the battery being exposed to a high-temp., high potential condition is decreased to a great extent. The second temp. rise operation is conducted before different parts of the modifier attain their respective operation starting temps. Trw. The battery temp. should attain the specified gas input temp. Tlg approx. simultaneously with attainment of Trw. Thereby it is practicable to raise the fuel cell temp. quickly to the gas temp. Trw where power generation is possible through utilization of part of the temp. rise standby time as used conventionally, shorted the time in which the electrode of this battery is exposed to a high-temp. high potential atmosphere, hinder the electrode catalyzer particles from growing to coarse grains and the electrode surface from reducing, and to preclude drop of the voltage-current characteristics and the lifetime characteristics.
