<p>Heat resistant ceramic articles are produced by (a) forming a mixt. of a heat resistant metal oxide and 0.04-1.0% wt. free alkali metal oxide or a compd. forming such an oxide when heated, (b) isostatically compressing the mixt. under a pressure of at least 1100 kg./cm2. which is sufficient to form a self supporting moulding, and (c) igniting the moulding in an oxygen-contng. atmosphere at a temp. of at least 1500 degrees C. Used for the prodn. of articles such as bricks, blocks, tubes and crucibles. The articles have a high heat resistance and a very low permeability, as a result of their low porosity. The articles also have a good strength and abrasion resistance.</p> |
