DATA PROCESSING SYSTEM AND METHOD

PURPOSE: To prevent the performance or speed of a display system from being dropped while minimizing the required quantity of hardware by providing the antialias of a straight line to be displayed by determining the luminance of picture elements sandwiching both the sides of the straight line over the entire route from any desired line in proportion to the distance of these picture elements. CONSTITUTION: The data processing system can be operated so as to display the antialiased line on a display device provided with the matrix array of picture elements. This system is provided with a means 1100 for receiving data for positioning the line to be displayed by the matrix array of these picture elements relatively to these picture elements in the matrix array while including the starting point and ending point of such a line concerning the data related to this line and means 1116-1128 for finding the relative position of the line in respect to a pair of picture elements sandwiching the line. Further, means 1112 and 1114 are provided for determining the luminance of respective picture elements sandwiching the line based on this relative position.
