PURPOSE:To improve the noise performance, and to reduce the number of wiring by stopping the starting pulse when non-lighting condition or non-holding condition of a high pressure discharge lamp is detected, and inputting the lamp installing signal to generate the starting pulse. CONSTITUTION:A pulse stop means 1c detects non-holding condition or nun- lighting condition of a high pressure discharge lamp 3, and after a certain time is passed, the means 3 stops a high voltage pulse generating means 1b. A timer circuit is built in the pulse stop means 1c, and the means 1c is connected to lamp wires 4a, 4b to detect non-holding condition or non-lighting condition between the lamp wires 4a, 4b. At this stage, when a lamp 3 is held by a lamp holder 13 as a lamp holding means and a lamp contact piece 16 as an electrical connecting means is connected, the lamp 3 is connected to a lighting device 1. Furthermore, when a switch 2a is operated, the lamp installing signal is outputted, and the starting pulse is applied from the pulse generating means 1b to the lamp 3 to light the lamp 3. The lamp wire 4b can be commonly used for the connection of the switch 2a to eliminate the necessity for thickening a feeder. |
