The invention proposes a rotating electric machine (10) of the type comprising a rotor (12), a stator (18) which includes at least one annular cylindrical skirt and a radial end flange (24) traversed by the shaft (16) of the rotor (12) and which at least partly delimits an enclosure (13) within which the rotor is mounted rotating, and of the type including a casing (38) which at least partially surrounds the stator (18, 20) and which, with the latter, delimits a peripheral annular cooling chamber (50) filled with a refrigerant fluid, characterised in that it includes at least one unit (52, 62, 64) for heat exchange between the flange (24) of the stator (18) and the refrigerant fluid. The invention is particularly applicable for producing a motor vehicle alternator cooled by water. <IMAGE>
