The proposed device for applying coatings comprises an application brush with a metal pile (2) and a lamellar element (4) consisting of the coating material. The brush pile picks up coating particles from the element (4) and transfers them to the article (6) undergoing treatment, thereby strengthening the surface of the article and the applied coating. The thickness of the lamellar element (4) is no greater than fifty times the diameter of a wire in the brush pile (2). The device is provided with a drive for introducing and withdrawing the element in accordance with the amount of covering to be applied to the article, and with a vibrator (7) which acts on the part of the pile (2) enclosed in a space (0) of variable section formed in an open housing (3). The device is also provided with a moveable device (8) for sharpening the brush pile (2).
