1,195,457. Cleaning rods. I. PROPERZI. 21 Feb., 1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 8475/68. Heading F2N. [Also in Division B3] During hot rolling of rod material in a continuous mill, the surface layer of the material is removed by scrapers located between adjacent mill stands. Each scraper includes flexible radial blades 25 which are carried in stacked rings 24. Lubricating and cooling fluid is able to pass through gaps 31 located between each blade and its supporting ring. The fluid can be cleaned of scraped debris and recycled. The rod material, after being scraped on cell of its surfaces, is rolled in a final stand to circular cross-section and is cooled in an axially extending tube to a temperature below which active reoxydation of the material in air takes place. |
