ARMOURED ELEMENT AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

The invention relates to armour protection and can be used to protect people and vehicles from bullets. The armoured element consists of a ceramic tile (1) mounted on a layered substrate (2) of high modular organic fabric impregnated with gum and covering the lateral surface of the ceramic tile (1). A layer (4) of a plastic polymer such as polyethylen extends across the entire surface of the half-finished product comprising the ceramic tile (1) on the substrate (2). The outer lamellar jacket (5) consists of a high modular organic fabric impregnated with gum. Between the ceramic tile and the substrate is situated a shock absorbent layer (3), of, for example, of metallized rubber. The mechanical strength of the substrate enhances that of the outer lamellar jacket. The ceramic tile is made from boron carbide by the hot pressing method. High modular grum-impregnated organic fabric is used to line the ceramic tile, on a base of epoxide of high setting temperature. Lining of the ceramic tile takes place in a closed form at the setting temperature of the adhesive. The plastic polymer layer is applied by spraying particles from the boiling-off layer. The outer stratified jacket is formed by criss-cross winding a high modular organic fabric impregnated with gum on an epoxide base. The armoured element is not penetrated during firing at a protected object with 7.62 mm armour piercing/incendiary rounds from a distance of 3 to 10 m, round velocity being 860 m/sec; the area density of the elements is no greater than 32 kg/m<2> and the thickness 17 to 17.5 mm.
