The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the conversion of higher hydrocarbons, such as used oil, bio oils, tar and waste constituents into diesel oil by catalytic evaporation. To prepare the starting materials, these are freed of low-boiling constituents. The diesel oil-like vapour exiting from the catalytic evaporation is freed of odour substances and of the tendency for subsequent reaction by passing it through various reactors and catalysts.
