PURPOSE:To attain highly accurately automatic focus detection with a simple constitution by projecting the specific shapes of plural light emitting elements as projection patterns. CONSTITUTION:When a projection pattern 108 is projected on a subject, the projection images 201, 202, 203 of plural LED chips are projected on the subject as they are in one direction. Since an electrode made of a metallic film is formed on the center of each LED chip, the center is dark and the periphery of bright. Thereby, the projection image of the LED chip is projected on the subject as the bright part 201a and the dark part 201b, i.e. the projection images 201, 202, 203 are projected on an element array 106 in the direction rectangular to the array direction through a projection lens 104. An automatic focus detector in a camera detects the projection pattern 108 (projection images 201, 202, 203) to attain auto-focusing operation. Thus, automatic focus detection can be applied also to a dark subject by a simple projecting method. |
