Inhibition of corrosion of metals which form oxides in contact with an aq. mixt. of sulphuric acid and hydrocyanic acid involves including an iron salt in the mixt. The mixt. is pref. aerated. The aq. mixt. contains 0.001-10 wt.% sulphuric acid, pref. 0.01-5 wt.% sulphuric acid, and 1.0-2500 ppm hydrocyanic acid, pref. 10-100 ppm hydrocyanic acid. The concn. of iron salt is 10-1000, pref. 50-75, ppm. The metal is iron, iron alloys, steel, titanium or zirconium. The iron salt is iron (III) salt such as iron (III) sulphate or oxylate or potassium ferrocyanide. |
