The invention relates to a method and a device for removing air from a liquid matter in the process industry, in particular for removing of air from a coating agent used for coating paper or similar web material. In the method, the air is separated from the liquid matter by means of centrifugal force in that the liquid matter is brought into a rotational movement in such a way that the air, being lighter than the liquid matter, is separated towards the centre of the formed vortex, where liquid matter having a high air content is removed. The liquid matter is brought into rotation within a substantially vertical and stationary cylinder tube 11, in which the liquid matter is introduced in the upper portion of the cylinder tube 11 in such a way that the liquid matter is guided into rotational movement against the wall of the cylinder tube 11 while at the same time moving downwards in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the cylinder tube 11 under influence of a pressure difference. The liquid matter containing small amounts of air is removed in the lower portion of the cylinder tube 11 at the edges of the cylinder tube, and the liquid matter containing large amounts of air is removed from the cylinder tube 11 concentrically in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the cylinder tube 11. <IMAGE>
