A releasable latch mechanism comprises a first part 1 having a bore 2 in which a tubular portion 20 of a second part lies, the first part being adapted to be coupled to a cord, cable, wire or rod (shown as a slotted cable) extending through said tubular portion, a lever 7 being pivotally coupled to said first part and movable towards said bore and tubular portion, said lever pivotally carrying an abutment 14 having first and second abutment parts 18, 17, said abutment being biassed into a position in which the first abutment part 18 engages a detent 12 in said tubular portion of the second part whilst the second abutment part 17 engages said first part so that movement of the tubular portion along said bore in one direction is normally prevented, movement of said lever from an inoperative position in a direction towards said first part causes angular movement of the abutment and disengagement of said abutment 14 from said tubular portion thereby permitting movement to occur in said one direction along the bore of the first part, means 23 being provided on said second part to enable movement of the second part with said first part to be prevented. In the construction shown there are two of said levers and two of said abutments disposed symmetrically and the abutments are biassed by springs 16 disposed between the abutments and the levers; these springs also bias the levers to their inoperative positions but this is assisted by additional springs 12. The second parts 17 of the abutments pass through apertures 4 to engage the detent 22 in the form of a groove in the tubular part 20. |
