PURPOSE: To obtain a fine graphite fibril material high in crystallizability and purity and useful for an electric battery material and a reinforcing material having electric conductivity by removing a flux carrier from a carbon fibril obtained by the normal method, controlling it to a specific particle size, and heat-treating it at a specific condition. CONSTITUTION: A catalyst carrier is removed from the carbon fibril obtained by the method described in the Japanese Patent Application Publication Hei 2/503334 official gazette and the like, the particle size of the fibril material is controlled to 0.1-100 μm by pulverizing and the fibril material is heat treated in vacuum or in inert gas atmosphere at 2,000-3,500 deg.C, preferably at 2,300-3,000 deg.C. The material is obtained with a fiber diameter of 0.0035-0.075 μm and an L/D>=10, a face distance (d002) of carbon hexagonal net face (002) of 3.36-3.53 angstrom, a diffraction angle (2θ) of 25.2-26.4 degree and a half bandwidth of 2θ being 0.5-3.1 degree (x-ray diffraction method); a ratio of peak heights of the bands in Raman scattering spectra at 1,570-1,578 cm<-1> and 1,341-1,349 cm<-1> >=1 deg.C; C1 S/D1 S>=99/1 (X ray photoelectron spectroscopy); an amount containing metal <=0.02. |
