By controlling the tension of the layer different embossed effects are obtained on the resin sheet while using the same embossing surface. The embossing surface may be the surface of a roller. The layer may be drawn from a braked roll or may be in the form of an endless belt. The layer may be composed of synthetic resin (examples are given). The thermoplastics resin sheet may be composed of vinyl resin, olefinic resin, acrylic resin or urethane resin, and may contain a blowing agent which is activated subsequent to the embossing step. The layer may be bonded to the resin sheet during the embossing step.
