PURPOSE:To set an air condifioner so as to be comfortable through the year by calculating a user's basal metabolic rate at the time of air conditioning from a yearly period pattern of a stored standard basal metabolic rate, a user's body weight in a space to be air conditioned and a date at the time of air conditioning, calculating a comfort index from a calculated basal metabolic rate and a detected air conditioning space state, and controlling the air conditioning according to the index. CONSTITUTION:Basal metabolic rate calculating means 6 calculates a user's basal metabolic rate at the time of air conditioning based on a yearly period pattern of a standard basal metabolic rate stored in memory means 5, a body weight of a user in a space to be air conditioned to be input from remote operating means 14, and a date at the time of the air conditioning, and sends it to comfort index calculating means 4. The means 4 calculates a comfort index from state sensed information of the space to be air conditioned to be output from temperature sensing means 7-wearing amount detecting means 12 and the basal metabolic rate. Control means 3 controls a compressor 15, a fan motor 16, a louver motor 17 of air conditioning means 2 based on the index.
