PURPOSE:To obtain a precursor capable of producing high-quality alcohol deal ing with a high yield and high selection rate at a low temp., low pressure and practicable reaction rate by depositing a compsn. consisting of oxides, such as CuO/ZnO/lanthanide element, on a catalyst carrier formed by coating the surface of a carrier base material, such as silica, with titanium oxide, etc. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst precursor for hydrogenation reaction is constituted by depositing or mixing the metal oxide B having the compsn. of CuO/ZnO/[the oxide of at least one kind of the metals selected from a group of periodic table group IIa elements, group IIIb elements, lanthanide elements and actinide element] (weight ratio)=100/(0 to 25)/(0 to 25) on or with a catalyst carrier A prepared by applying titanium oxide and/or titanium hydroxide, to the surface of at least one kind of the carrier base materials selected from silica, alumina, zeolite, etc., at a ratio of B/A (weight ratio)=15/85 to 65/35. The high-quality alcohol dealing with the high yield and the high selection rate is produced by using such precursor. |
