In a press for making inner race rings for roller bearings a core 1 engages a section O of tube stock which is surrounded by a segmented die 2 and a ram 3 axially presses the tube stock causing it to flow around the die 2 to form the race ring, the die and ram being linked, preferably by racks 10 and pinions 9, so that the die descends at half the speed of the ram during a press stroke. The core 1 is mounted within the ram 3 and both are fluid operated. The die segments are moved to and from the tube stock by fluid operated means 5 and locked in their operative positions by fluid operated wedges 6. A feed 11 feeds sections O into the working position and finished race rings are swept from the press table by means of a fluid operated arm (12), Fig. 2 (not shown). |
