Procedure for obtaining zeolite A. It involves: (a) heat treatment at 700-900degreeC for about 30 minutes of the catalyst used in the catalytic cracking processes; (b) ripening of the resultant product in order to obtain particles with a size less than 20 μm; (c) treatment of the ground product with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide at a temperature of 85-90degreeC for about 70 minutes; and (d) filtering and drying of the resultant product. The zeolite A so obtained has applications in the formulation of detergents as an ion exchanger which does not pollute the environment.
