Method for multipoint switching of packet-oriented information in communications systems

Collision-reduced switching of information packets (P) transmitted by communications terminals (KE) involved in a multipoint connection (MPV) in a time-slot-oriented communications system (KS) is effected by providing a packet filter (PF) connected to a multipoint coupling device (MPKE) for a group (KE1...KEn) of communications terminals (KE) connected to the communications system (KS) and by switching an information packet (P) via an assigned multipoint time slot (MPZS) of the multipoint coupling device (MPKE) to the communications terminals (KE) involved in the multipoint connection (MPV), provided that a packet start (pa) of this information packet (P) is recognised as collision-free and the assigned multipoint time slot (MPZS) is identified as free. In collision-free switching of information (P) transmitted by communications terminals (KE) involved in a multipoint connection, a single packet filter (PF) is provided for the communications terminals (KE) connected to a communications system (KS), the packet filter (PF) having the same functions as in collision-reduced switching. With the aid of the methods according to the invention, the packet throughput rate via multipoint connections and its efficiency are substantially increased. <IMAGE>
