During a launching manoeuvre opposed to the list, the requisite minimum launching distance will not be reached. Rolling gravity davits or cranes occupy a large retaining height as a function of their extended position. Known boat operating means have a movable beam which is produced from a complex system of individual beams connected to one another. The novel launching device is to be suitable for launching the free-fall lifeboat in thwartship direction within the largest possible range of the angle of heel to each side. The novel boat operating means is to have a minimised retaining height and is to be equipped with a movable individual beam.
