The invention relates to a device for converting a rotary motion into a reciprocating motion or vice versa and to a pump produced by this means. The device comprises a spindle (1) with an outer circumferential surface which has a longitudinal axis (3) and into which at least one guide groove (5, 5') is machined, a bearing body (8) with a wall (9) concentrically surrounding the spindle (1), the spindle (1) and the bearing body (8) being arranged so as to be both rotatable and axially displaceable relative to one another, and a power transmission device with at least one ball mechanism (10, 10'), which has at least one driving ball (10a, 10a') and is mounted in a bearing through-hole (11) in the wall (9) in such a way that, on one side, it projects into the guide groove (5, 5') and, on the opposite side, projects outwards beyond the wall (9) of the bearing body (8).
