An apparatus and method of retrieving a radio-controlled fuel powered model boat (1) is disclosed. The apparatus includes a pivot arm (8) with a pinion gear (9) and an idler gear (11) that is attached to the shaft (7) of a secondary motor (6). The idler gear (11) in said pivot arm (8) engages a driven gear (15) that turns the model boat's propeller shaft (5) by transferring the secondary motor shaft's rotation through gears to the propeller shaft (5). The apparatus includes a movement limiting bracket (12) that limits the pivot arm's movement to either engage or disengage the driven gear (15) attached to the model boat's propeller drive shaft (5).
