<p>A paging terminal (110) comprises transmitter controller means (226), receiving controller means (252), and an assignment means (256). The paging terminal (110) is for locating a portable communication unit (108). The transmitter controller means (226) is coupled to one or more transmitters (104) for transmitting an information signal which comprises a predetermined color code word which identifies a subset of a plurality of communication cells (500) for which radio coverage does not overlap. The receiving controller means (252) is coupled to fixed receivers (103) for receiving an acknowledge back signal from the portable communication unit (108) comprising a reported color code value determined from the predetermined color code word transmitted in the first information signal. The assignment means is coupled to the receiving controller means (252) for identifying the one of the fixed receivers (103) and determining a cell location of the portable communication unit (108) from the reported color code value and the identification of the one of the fixed receivers (103).</p> |
