A method of freeze-manufacturing articles involves continual freezing of a fused material on a mandrel (2) as the contact zone of said fused material is moved. The mandrel (2) is introduced into a heat chamber (5) in which pressure is reduced and/or which has a protective atmosphere. As the mandrel (2) is introduced into the chamber (5) it is thermally insulated from the opposing faces by thermally insulating inserts (15). The device for carrying out the said method comprises a cooling unit (1) for cooling the mandrel (2), an input store (3) with a device (4) for moving the mandrels horizontally, a heat chamber (5), a heating inductor (6), a device (7) for raising the mandrel (2) vertically, and a device (8) for moving the casting (2) into the output store (9). The heat chamber (5) is designed as a vacuum chamber in such a way that the fused material (10) can be moved by induction into the contact zone. In addition, two devices (7 and 17) are provided for moving the thermally insulating inserts (15), as well as an output store (16) for the thermally insulating inserts (15), a cooling chamber (19) where these inserts (15) are cooled, and an outer section (20) for the return of one of these inserts (15) to one of the devices (7) which displace them for placing them on the faces of the mandrel (2).
