The invention relates to a device for converting a rotary motion into a reciprocating motion and vice versa. The device comprises a rotary part in the form of a spindle (1) with an outer circumferential surface which has a longitudinal axis (3) and into which a guide groove (5, 5') is machined, a reciprocating part (6) which is mounted in a manner which allows it to be pushed backwards and forwards on the spindle (1) and has a bearing body (8) with a wall that concentrically surrounds the spindle (1), and a power transmission device with a ball mechanism (10, 10') that has at least one driving ball (10a, 10a'), is inserted into the guide groove (5, 5') and is supported on the bearing body (8). In one section (9), the thickness of which is less than the thickness of the ball mechanism (10, 10'), the wall has a bearing through-hole (11) in which the ball mechanism (10, 10', 10'', 32) is supported in such a way that it projects on one side into the guide groove (5, 5') but, on the opposite side, projects outwards beyond the wall of the bearing body (8). A race (12) supported on the ball mechanism, (10, 10') and preloading the latter in the direction of the guide groove (5, 5') is pulled onto the bearing body (8) at least in the region of the wall section (9) (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
