The invention relates to a drive mechanism for a twin-screw extruder. By an appropriate arrangement of the drive shafts, it is provided that the drive-mechanism housing comprises as few subhousings as possible. The subhousing, in particular the subhousing for the distributor drive, comprises two housing parts, as a result of appropriate arrangement of the parting plane. The chosen arrangement makes the drive mechanism smaller, lighter and less expensive.
