Insulating panels for insulation in the roof region between rafters require means for adaptation to the normally changing spacings between the reafters which form the roof substructure. For this purpose, the insulating panels have to be elastically compressible. Insulating panels which are conventionally produced from hard/tough foamed plastic do not fulfill this requirement. The aim of the invention is thus to provide insulating panels which consist of hard/tough foamed plastic and can be elastically compressed for adaptation to different rafter spacings. For this purpose, the invention proposes to subject the insulating panels or a blank for forming the same, before they are distributed, to partially reversible material deformation. In this arrangement, the cavities enclosed in the foamed plastic are preferably provided with a folded or bent surface. The resulting bends in the surface of the cavities make it possible for the insulating panel to be compressed elastically by hand during mounting between the rafters. A more or less pronounced compression makes it possible for the dimensions of the insulating panels to be changed such that they can be clamped fixedly between differently spaced-apart rafters.
