Reduction of the reject rate in the production of sand moulds

The invention provides a method for reducing the reject rate in the production of sand moulds. In this the separation of the pattern and the mould box formed is followed immediately by measurement of the weight of the pattern and comparison with predetermined standard weight. If there is a deviation from the standard weight, the pattern concerned is checked. Checking can lead to cleaning or replacement of the pattern and, as a result, as soon as a mould defect is detected no further defective moulds are produced. The (single) defective mould box formed can be marked as defective in the downstream part of the conveying line.
