PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform automatic focusing operation accurately and stably by correcting a defocusing amount and obtaining a driving amount so that an image forming optical system may follow up an object when the object is in moving and obtaining the driving amount without correcting the defocusing amount when the object stands still. CONSTITUTION:The timing of starting and ending charge storage is transmitted to a control means 109 by a focus detecting means 104 for detecting the focusing state of a photographic lens 101. The positional variation of the image forming surface accompanying the movement of the object is calculated based on plural defocusing amounts calculated by the focus detecting means 104, the amount due to the movement of the image forming optical system and a prescribed time. The image forming optical system is controlled by using a 1st focus detecting calculation mode for correcting the defocusing amount so that the image forming optical system may follow up the movement of the object based on the calculation output and calculating the amount of driving the image forming optical system and a 2nd focus detecting calculation mode for calculating the amount of driving the image forming optical system bade on the defocusing amount without using the calculation output. |
