The subject matter of the present invention is a modular illumination device. It consists of insulating modular elements formed by a hollow, preferably spherical shape (1), provided with an assembly adaptor (7), and on which penetrating (2) or non-penetrating (2') tubes bearing sockets (3) for electric bulbs (4) at their ends can be mounted, the sphere containing the electrical connections and optional switches or flashing equipment. It is intended above all for luminous decoration of roads or squares during festival periods, but may find numerous other applications in all cases where safety standards must be observed. <IMAGE>
