PURPOSE:To provide a motion picture coder with excellent picture quality by which the hardware is simplified and a correct motion vector in response to a motion of the picture is obtained so that a search range of the motion vector is not limited. CONSTITUTION:The coder is provided with coding circuits 103-112 having a mode applying in-frame coding to an input motion picture signal and a mode applying inter-frame coding to the picture signal and a mode selection circuit 113 selecting the coding mode of the coding circuits according to prediction information P from a motion compensation adaptive prediction circuit 112, and the mode selection circuit 113 sets forcibly an in-frame coding area in a frame of the input motion picture signal and the in-frame coding area is moved in response to the count N of a frame number counter 102 so that part of the in-frame coding area is subjected to in-frame coding consecutively at least over two patterns. |
