1,266,382. Refractory bricks. DIDIERWERKE A.G. 2 June, 1969 [1 June, 1968], No. 27727/69. Heading F4B. A fired basic or neutral refractory brick 1 is provided with a layer of a refractory composition 5 and then with protective steel cladding or armouring 3. The refractory layer of up to 10 mm. thickness may be applied by adhesion to either the brick or the cladding or injected between them, in the plastic or the dry states. Preferably however an overthick preformed plastic layer of refractory material which will harden under applied pressure is applied to the brick face, and the cladding or armouring 3 is then pressed on to the layer by the rams 6 of a forming press, surplus composition material being squeezed out sideways for removal. Grooves 2 in the brick face help retain the layer in place, claws 4 on the cladding engaging in these grooves. Composite clad bricks formed of two or more brick materials may have a refractory composition layer, with a metal reinforcement embedded in it, interposed between the differing brick materials. The brick may be of the hanger type. |
