PURPOSE:To quickly display a target compressed document picture by registering identification information indicating a compression system corresponding to individual compression documents stored in a storage medium in a prescribed storage area. CONSTITUTION:At the time of retrieving the compressed document picture from an optical disk, the optical disk to be retrieved is specified first, the list of file names inside a specified directory is displayed on the screen of a CRT display device 15 and the target file name is selected. Thereafter, the presence/ absence of the setting of an expander for indicating the compression system to the document picture of the file name is investigated. When the setting of the expander is present, a data expansion rule table on a magnetic disk is referred to from the expander and pertinent rule information is retrieved. Consecutively, pertinent picture data are read out of the optical disk and a picture processing part 27 executes the expansion processing of the picture data corresponding to rules on a picture memory. The expanded picture data are developed in a display memory 25 and displayed at the display device 15. |
