<p>Process is applicable to the prodn. of refractory alloy castings with the grains elongated and parallel to the axis of the casting. The fusion appts. which consists of a crucible in an induction furnace, and the casting appts. are enclosed in a sealed container which can be evaculated. The crucible and furnace are capable of tilting about an axis to direct a jet of metal into the mould. The casting appts. consists of a mould formed from thin refractory walls resting on a cooled base and surrounded by a heating wall which can be displaced relative to the hearth. Thermocouples inserted into the mould enable the rate of solidification to be controlled.</p> |
