The invention relates to an apparatus making it possible to convert a computer language for exchanging data between a computer and a specific printer into a more common language so as to be able to use standard microcomputer type printers. It consists of a box of dimensions 100x200x35 mm, fixed on one of the sides of the printer by pressure-sensitive adhesives. The box contains an electronic card consisting mainly of a microprocessor and elements required for its operation, namely a 256 Kilobyte random access memory, a 64 Kilobyte read only memory (or 256 Kilobytes depending on market options or prices), modules for interfacing with the peripherals and microswitches for the parameters (speed, parity, etc.). The computer/box link is made by a 25-contact female connector, and the box/printer link is effected by a ribbon cable terminating in a 36-pin connector. The box requires no external supply, the 5v being provided by the printer. The box is intended to allow the replacement of a very specific type of printer by an inkjet or laser type printer without modifying the computer's printout software which sends the information.
