The knitted pile fabric having decorative effects, obtained on a pile-warp knitting machine consists, according to the invention, of a ground ply into which are stitched loops (5) formed by a base thread (3) and loops (7) formed by one or more effect threads (4); the longitudinal floats (9) between two decorative assemblies (6a, 6b) including loops (7) formed from one and the same effect thread (4) are located beneath the ground ply (8). This knitted fabric (1) is produced on a pile-warp knitting machine. The base thread (3) feeds the first guide (10) furthest away from the needle (11), the ground thread (2) feeds the second guide (12) which is immediately adjacent to the first one (10) and the effect thread or threads (4) feeds or feed the guide or guides closest to the needle (11). The bar of the guides for the effect thread(s) (4) is prevented from moving at all times except during stitching of the effect loops (7). Feeding of the effect thread(s) (4) is reduced while the corresponding guide bar is prevented from moving. <IMAGE>
