摘要 PURPOSE:To eliminate a defect in orientation due to matching deviation between an upper and a lower substrate, to suppress a display defect, and to improve the field angle by raising liquid crystal molecules along lines of electric force generated at electrode end parts when a voltage is applied between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:On the border surface which comes into contact with the liquid crystal of the substrates 1 and 2, only uniform director orientation directions 3 and 4 (pretilt angle 0 deg. to the substrates) are determined by microgroove orientation processed films 101 and 102 consisting of fine uneven structure so as to control the pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules to 0 deg.. When the voltage is applied between the electrodes 6 and 7, the liquid crystal molecules rise along the lines 8 and 9 of electric force generated at the end parts (sides of striped electrodes in this case) of the electrodes 6 and 7. At this time, the orientation films 101 and 102 restrict the pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules to 0 deg., namely, do not operate to restrict the rising direction of the liquid crystal molecules, so the liquid crystal molecules rise in the direction of the lines of electric force at the end parts of the electrodes in order.
