A friction clutch, as for a motor vehicle, comprises a clutch housing (10) enclosing a clutch control device consisting of a clutch release bearing (20) and a hydraulic actuating device (26, 34) having at least one actuating piston (26) capable of moving the release bearing (20) axially. The clutch incorporates a device indicating clutch lining wear, consisting of a wear indicating element (44) linked to the axial motion of the actuating piston (26, 34) and protruding outside the housing (10) to give, mechanically, information on the amount of movement of the actuating piston (26).
