Since the ammunition which is to be burnt may accidently not have been rendered safe in advance, the combustion system must withstand the pressure of at least 40 bar. According to the invention, the combustion is carried out in a unit which is mounted such that it can rotate and consists of a rotating tube furnace 3, a secondary combustion chamber 6 and a waste-heat boiler 9. The said unit is designed to be appropriately pressure-resistant and the rotating tube furnace 3 as well as the secondary combustion chamber 6 are clad in a fire-resistant manner.
