An apparatus for separating out containers (12) arranged in a row in a foil strand (10) has supporting plates (15) which are rotatable perpendicularly to the conveying direction and which are surrounded by receptacles (24) of a vertically movable die (25). For separating out the containers (12) from the foil strand (10), the die (25) cooperates with a likewise vertically movable cutting knife (30). The supporting plates (15) have supporting surfaces (16) which possess two different extensions (17, 18) offset relative to one another. When the supporting plates (15) are rotated, with the die (25) lowered, their maximum extensions (18) form a gapless conveyor track for the containers (12), so that these can be guided out of the apparatus without the risk of tilting in the gaps between the supporting surfaces (15).
